Kyle Richardson's Speaker Stands

These speaker stands were built for my center surround speakers and stand at 33". The top and bottom are made with 3/4" MDF while the sides are constructed from 7/8" solid mahogany. The front/rear are made with 1/2" MDF and are recessed in 1/2" from the front/rear edge of the sides. A 1/4" deep x 1/2" wide dado was cut on the mahogany sides to allow for the front/back to fit snugly into. Most edges were chamfered with a 45¡ router bit.
The center column is hollow which allowed me to fill it 3/4 full with playground sand to stabilize it and lower its center of gravity. All MDF was painted with eggshell black while the mahogany is stained with Minwax mahogany gel stain and covered with 3 coats of Deft clear gloss finish. Total project time was 3 days off and on with most of the time being taken allowing the stain and clear coat to dry between coats.
